SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE OVER $5.4 MILLION TO MAINE AIRPORTS

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded Maine $5,490,842 in federal funding for airport-related projects throughout the state.    “Airport infrastructure is a critical part of our transportation system,” Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. “Funding from the Department of Transportation will allow recipient airports to make much-needed improvements to their facilities, thereby increasing the safety of their services.”   The following will receive funding:   • $600,000 to Old Town for runway safety area improvements at Dewitt Field • $170,000 to Norridgewock for runway rehabilitation at the Central Maine Airport of Norridgewock • $303,878 to Belfast to expand the general aviation parking apron at Belfast Municipal Airport • $190,000 to Auburn-Lewiston to assess environmental impacts of a proposed taxiway at Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport • $70,000 to Caribou for reconstruction of the general aviation parking apron at Caribou Municipal Airport • $2,148,034 to Hancock County for runway reconstruction at the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport • $758,930 to Knox County to acquire an aircraft rescue and fire fighting vehicle and snow removal equipment at the Knox County Regional Airport • $1,250,000 to Sanford for reconstruction of the aircraft parking apron at the Sanford Regional Airport   The Department of Transportation (DOT) aims to improve safety, increase mobility in support of the nation’s economy, protect human and natural environment, achieve organizational excellence, and support the national security strategy.  DOT serves the United States by ensuring a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life of the American people.
