"These federal dollars provide the resources necessary to make critical improvements to highways and ferry services throughout Maine," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. The federal funding was allocated as follows:
• $1,442,107 for the Waldo-Hancock Suspension Bridge in Prospect and Verona, for the completion of a new bridge.
• $321,594 for the Maine Statewide ITS, the Intelligent Transportation Systems Deployment Project.
• $150,440 for the Swans Island Ferry Terminal Improvements, for the construction of improvements to the Maine State Ferry Service facility servicing Swans Island. Work will include improved electrical and lighting, better communication systems, and the construction of new pier components.
• $150,440 for the Ocean Gateway Development, for a new transportation complex at the Portland Ocean Terminal site providing inter-modal connections to domestic and international vessels in the Port of Portland.
• $120,352 for the Governor Curtis Ferry Boat Replacement. The new ferry boat will be larger to accommodate more passengers and will have new design features so it can better handle demanding weather conditions.
