SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $400,000 IN TRANSPORTATION GRANTS TO MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded Maine $388,000 in federal funding. The funds have been allocated to four Maine towns to be used for transportation research and development.

"It is important to expand and improve upon Maine's transportation systems so that we may continue to enhance transportation safety and services," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "This federal funding will help fulfill the needs of these communities."

The following towns will receive funding:

• $160,000 to the City of Biddeford for removal of obstructions to maintain runway safety.

• $50,000 to Oxford County to conduct an environmental study

• $150,000 to the Town of Jackman to construct a snow removal equipment building

• $28,000 to the City of Belfast to conduct an airport master plan study

The Department of Transportation (DOT) aims to improve safety, increase mobility in support of the nation's economy, protect human and natural environment, achieve organizational excellence, and support the national security strategy. DOT has provided the grants allocated to Maine through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA issues and enforces regulations and minimum standards covering manufacturing, operating, and maintaining aircraft.
