SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $3.4 MILLION FOR MAINE HEALTH SERVICES

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has awarded $3,391,400 in grants to various health services programs throughout Maine . 

 

“Ensuring that Mainers receive the health services they need is one of our greatest priorities. We are thrilled that the recent grants awarded by DHHS will help to fund some vital health programs throughout the state and increase the quality of care afforded to Mainers,” said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.

 

The following have been awarded funding:

 

  • $2,298,777 to the State of Maine Department of Human Services for immunization and vaccines for children grants
  • $297,600 to Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems for adult and community health services
  • $294,000 to Jackson Laboratory for biological research related to deafness and communicative disorders
  • $206,023 to the State of Maine Department of Human Services for chronic disease prevention and health promotion programs
  • $175,000 to the Maine Department of Human Services for early hearing detection and intervention tracking
  • $120,000 to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services for public health injury surveillance and prevention program

 

The Department of Health and Human Services is the United States government's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves.  HHS works closely with state and local governments and administers more grant dollars than all other federal agencies combined.
