SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE NEARLY $1 MILLION GRANT TO MAINE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the Maine Department of Transportation $972,540 in federal funding to be distributed for various projects around the state.    “Improving the infrastructure of Maine’s transportation system is an important development,” Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. “Funding from the Department of Transportation will allow recipient locations to make much-needed improvements to their facilities, thereby increasing the safety of their services.”   The following will receive funding:   • $680,130 to the Maine Department of Transportation to continue the design and environmental analysis for a multi-purpose Downeast Transportation facility in Trenton. • $178,600 to the City of Biddeford to fund an effort to remove obstructions from the airport. • $113,810 to the Town of Pittsfield to fund a project to develop a plan to remove obstructions form the airport’s only active runway. The Department of Transportation (DOT) aims to improve safety, increase mobility in support of the nation’s economy, protect human and natural environment, achieve organizational excellence, and support the national security strategy.  DOT serves the United States by ensuring a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life of the American people.
