WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $3,240,063 to the Maine State Housing Authority for continuation of the Fiscal Year 2006 Maine Weatherization Program. This grant brings the total funding to date for this program to $9,315,448.
“This additional funding from the Department of Energy will contribute immensely to the Maine State Housing Authority’s ongoing weatherization assistance efforts,” said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “It is essential that Maine’s low-income homeowners and renters receive this weatherization support in order to keep their families warm for many winters to come.”
The Maine State Housing Authority (MSHA) operates the Weatherization Program to finance energy related repairs for low income homeowners and renters with an emphasis on increasing energy efficiency through insulation, weatherstripping, or more general improvements. The program is run through Maine’s Community Action Program (CAP). Financing comes from the Departments of Energy and of Health and Human Services.
