SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE FUNDS TO UPGRADE HEALTH FACILITIES

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded more than $500,000 to Rumford Hospital and the University of Southern Maine. $270,068 has been awarded to the Rumford Hospital and $245,516 has been awarded to the University of Southern Maine. The funding will be used to upgrade health care and other facilities.

"It is vital that Mainers are provided with the most up to date and effective health care that is available," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "That is why updating health facilities at the Rumford Hospital and University of Southern Maine is so essential. We applaud the release of funds to these two entities."

$270,068 has been awarded to the Rumford Hospital to repair and replace mechanical systems in the operating room and to replace the hospital chiller.

$245,516 has been awarded to the University of Southern Maine, the funding will be used for expansion of the University's School of Nursing with a 50 seat computer classroom as well as new office and meeting space. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services works to improve and extend life for people living with HIV/AIDS, provide primary health care to medically underserved people, serve women and children through state programs, and train a health workforce that is both diverse and motivated to work in underserved communities.
