SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE ALMOST $100,000 IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced $96,500 awarded to Maine from The Land and Water Conservation Fund. Three recreational parks and facilities in the State of Maine will receive the grants.

"Support for recreational areas directly benefits Maine's people and helps preserve its natural beauty," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "Each of the communities receiving assistance deserves these funds and will put them to good use." · $22,500 to the Town of Oxford for the Oxford Community Center Complex. · $24,000 to the District #58 School Administration for the Stratton School Playground. · $50,000 to the Town of Old Orchard Beach for the Veterans Memorial Park.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund has awarded Maine over $37 million since the foundation of the program. The organization is a partnership program that provides matching funds to states and local communities for acquisition, development, and conservation of parks and open spaces.
