SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $99,674 IN FUNDING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MAINE AT ORONO

WASHINGTON, D.C.-U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced $99,674 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to support research at the University of Maine at Orono. "This funding will allow researchers at the University of Maine at Orono to continue to perform the kind of great studies that make the University a leading research institution," Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "The research funded by this grant will provide important insights into women's health and nutrition."

The grant will last two years and will allow researchers in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition to study the effects of vitamin D3 in premenopausal women. The grant was awarded by the National Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program which supports high priority fundamental and mission-linked research of importance in the biological, environmental, physical, and social sciences relevant to agriculture, food, and the environment.
