Snowe, Collins Announce $950,000 In Transportation Grants For Maine Airports

U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins (R-Maine) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $950,000 to four Maine communities for local airport improvements.

"Maine's aviation infrastructure keeps its residents connected with the rest of the country and the world," Senators Snowe and Collins said. "These FAA funds will help these small airports make the necessary upgrades and developments to improve their air travel services and safety."

The funding will be distributed as follows:

? $170,000 to the City of Eastport- This grant will provide funding for the construction of a fuel farm at Eastport Municipal Airport. The fuel farm will help the airport achieve self-sufficiency.
? $150,000 to the Town of Wiscasset- These funds will support the second phase for the snow removal equipment building at Wiscasset Municipal Airport.
? $250,000 to Knox County- This grant will help the County acquire snow removal equipment for Knox County Regional Airport including a snow blower with a sweeper.
? $380,000 to Hancock County- This grant will provide funding for the construction of runway 22 end safety area at Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) aims to improve safety, increase mobility in support of the nation's economy, protect human and natural environment, achieve organizational excellence, and support the national security strategy.
