WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded Maine $760,350 in federal grants for various transportation projects.
“These grants from the Department of Transportation are vital in the ongoing effort to improve Maine’s transportation infrastructure and to ensure safety, efficiency, and accessibility for both residents of and visitors to Maine ,” said Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.
The funding is distributed as follows:
• $193,667 to replace the Waldo-Hancock Bridge on U.S. Route 1 between Prospect and Verona Island .
• $24,417 for a Penobscot River Passenger Ferry Docking Facility. This Bangor waterfront ferry terminal will allow for passenger transport to Bar Harbor .
• $154,933 to construct a new on-ramp at I-295 exit 3 in Cumberland .
• $387,333 to replace the Old Town-Milford Bridge on U.S. Route 2.
