WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Olympia Snowe, Senator Susan Collins, and Representative Tom Allen announced that workers who were recently laid off by Osram Sylvania will receive Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) from the U.S. Department of Labor.
"We are pleased to assist these skilled workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own," Senator Snowe, Senator Collins, and Representative Allen said in a joint statement. "TAA certification provides the resources necessary for these workers to gain the skills needed to return to the workforce."
TAA provides assistance for workers who lose their jobs due to foreign competition. Benefits to workers who are newly unemployed include training, education, job search and relocation allowances, and re-employment services including counseling, interview training, and resume assistance. Health care tax credits and unemployment benefits extensions are also established for a company that has received TAA certification.
