SNOWE AND COLLINS ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $600,000 FOR JACKSON LABORATORY

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins announced today that Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor will receive a $630,000 grant from the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR). The grant will help support the renovation of the Laboratory's research facilities.

"Jackson Lab expands the realm of scientific discovery everyday," said Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "The funds to improve the research facilities will provide the resources necessary to allow the institution's dedicated workers to continue to advance cures for human disease."

The Jackson Laboratory is a non-profit institution that serves as the world's largest mammalian genetic research facility. Its mission is to improve the quality of human life through discoveries arising from genetic research and by enabling the research and education of others.

The NCRR is a component of the National Institutes of Health. NCRR funding provides biomedical researchers with access to diverse instrumentation, technologies, basic and clinical research facilities, animal models, genetic stock, and biomaterials. These resources enable scientific advances in biomedicine that lead to the development of lifesaving drugs, devices, and therapies.
