SNOWE AND COLLINS ANNOUNCE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION GRANTS FOR MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins (R-ME) today announced that $2,675,506 in grants have been awarded to Maine from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The funds are in the form of two grants with $114,000 allocated to the Norridgewock Airport Authority and $2,562,506 to the Portland International Jetport.

"A modern transportation network is essential to a healthy economy," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "This funding will help ensure that Portland and Norridgewock have the ability to provide expanded transportation services for our state. We believe these grants will keep Maine connected not only to the rest of the country but to the world"

The Department of Transportation (DOT) aims to improve safety, increase mobility in support of the nation's economy, protect human and natural environment, achieve organizational excellence, and support the national security strategy. DOT has provided the grants allocated to Maine through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA issues and enforces regulations and minimum standards covering manufacturing, operating, and maintaining aircraft.
