WASHINGTON, D.C.--U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding approximately $4.9 million in competitive grant funding to the Bangor International Airport. This funding will be used to help rehabilitate existing apron pavement that has reached the end of its useful life. The apron is the area, near the airport, where planes are parked for passenger loading and unloading and routine maintenance.
"It is encouraging that the Bangor International Airport is experiencing a growth in the number of passengers flying in and out," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "This funding will help BIA continue to make improvements and make necessary upgrades to improve services and safety."
