SENATORS SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $879,753 FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT IN LYMAN

U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded $879,753 in funding under the Fire Station Construction Grant (SCG) program for the Goodwin's Mills Fire Department in Lyman.

The funding is being distributed to Maine through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Senators Snowe and Collins worked with a bipartisan group of senators to craft this legislation, which became law last year.

"This grant funding will allow the Goodwin's Mills Fire Department to make necessary improvements to its facilities, and to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a statement. "It is important to ensure that our first responders have the resources they need to better serve their communities."

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the purpose of the SCG Program is to provide communities that have gaps in adequate firefighting coverage with financial assistance for the construction, renovation or modification of fire stations and to stimulate the local economy in the process.
