"It is critical that we help foster locally-developed and implemented energy-saving and conservation programs," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a statement. "This is extremely welcome news that will build upon current efforts to transition toward the use of renewable energy and ensure that Maine remains on the forefront of cutting-edge energy technologies."
The funding is being distributed to Maine through the American Recover and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which Senators Snowe and Collins helped author. Under DOE's EECBG Program, funds are awarded to help communities improve their energy efficiency, reduce their energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and create green jobs locally.
