SENATORS SNOWE & COLLINS ANNOUNCE $50,000 FOR PITTSFIELD MILL POND PROJECT

Washington, DC – Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced that the Town of Pittsfield has been awarded a $50,000 grant to develop a recreational park on Mill Pond. The grant was awarded by the U.S. National Park Service's Land and Water Conservation Fund program.

"This will be a beautiful waterfront park for the residents of Pittsfield to enjoy all year long. It will also draw visitors who will now have access to this part of Mill Pond and the Sebasticook River," said the Senators in a joint statement.

The Town of Pittsfield is expected to develop a day-use park on a two-acre site that has 610 feet of frontage on Mill Pond, an impoundment on the Sebasticook River in the center of town. The site to be renovated is a former trailer park. The park will include a parking lot, walking path, picnic tables, a community garden, and maintenance building.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund program provides matching grants to States and local governments for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities.
