U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan M. Collins today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $2,859,635 in Federal Highway Emergency Relief funding to Maine. The funding will be used to repair the damage on federal-aid highways caused by heavy rains and subsequent flooding that occurred in 2007 and 2008.

Counties eligible for the funding include: Aroostook, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo, York, Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Oxford, and Sagadahoc.

“We are pleased that these funds have been released,” said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “With the impending winter, it is important that Maine roads be ready. This emergency funding will allow for needed improvements and repairs.”
