SENATORS SNOWE, COLLINS ANNOUNCE $130 MILLION IN STATE STABILIZATION FUNDING FOR MAINE

U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe and U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that nearly $130 million in State Stabilization funding has been made available to Maine from the Department of Education. This funding will provide much-needed budgetary support for elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education and for other high priority needs such as public safety, and the modernization, renovation, and repair of K-12 and postsecondary schools.

The funding is being distributed to Maine through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Senators Snowe and Collins worked with a bipartisan group of senators to craft the legislation that became law in February.

"This funding is critical for Maine's schools as we cannot afford to the let present economic downturn affect the quality of public education," noted Senators Snowe and Collins. "This funding will ensure that Maine's schools continue to provide quality education to our next generation."
