The funding will be used for UMaine's comprehensive program of ocean-related research, education, and outreach.

"This grant is welcome news," noted Senator Snowe and Senator Collins in a joint statement. "The continued funding provided by these Sea Grants will increase UMaine's ocean research and education capacity."

The Maine Sea Grant Program assists a program of research and education aimed at better understanding the Atlantic Ocean. Current areas of emphasis are ecosystem health, aquaculture, costal community development, and fisheries.
