SENATORS SNOWE AND COLLINS ANNOUNCE $250,000 FOR ARGYLE BRIDGE

U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced today that the Maine Department of Transportation will receive $250,000 for the Boom Birch Bridge on Rt. 116 over Birch Stream from the Federal Highway Administration as part of continued work to upgrade and improve Maine’s bridges.     The project will use an accelerated technique to update the existing bridge built in 1938 to a much greater range of bridge length.  Using pre-cast concrete caps instead of the conventional cast in place concrete will accelerate construction and minimize the road closure time required for this bridge replacement.     “It is important that we continually invest in and improve Maine’s bridges, both big and small, so that we may enhance and maintain critical infrastructure to ensure the continued safety for the people of Maine,” said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.     ###
