SENATORS COLLINS, SNOWE URGE PRESIDENT TO SUPPORT GOVERNOR'S REQUEST FOR FEDERAL DISASTER ASSISTANCE

U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, in a letter today, urged the President to support Governor Paul LePage's request for federal disaster assistance for Aroostook, Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Washington counties, and Penobscot and Passamaquoddy tribal lands following severe flooding in December.

"Local businesses and infrastructure in these counties experienced significant and widespread damage resulting from rain storms and flooding in December," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "It is clear that our local and state resources, which are already strained, simply cannot bear the financial burden alone. Federal disaster assistance will provide affected counties with the resources they need during the recovery process. We urge the President to give expeditious consideration and approval of the Governor's request."
