Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today met with a group of 16 eighth grade students, parents, and teachers from Auburn Middle School who traveled to Washington, D.C., as part of the school’s biennial class trip.

“It is always a pleasure to welcome Maine students to our nation’s capital,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement.  “We had a great discussion with these bright students from Auburn Middle School about the legislative process and the daily responsibilities of a U.S. Senator.  Most important, we encouraged these young people to remain civically engaged, look for opportunities to improve their communities, and never lose sight of their dreams.”

During their visit, the Auburn Middle School eighth grade students toured the U.S. Capitol building, explored numerous Smithsonian museums, and walked along the National Mall to visit the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the World War II Memorial.
