Senators Collins, King Announce More Than $6.1 Million to Support Mental Health and Substance Use Programs in Maine

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that two organizations in Maine have been awarded a total of $6,133,048 to support mental health and substance use programs.  This funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Center for Mental Health Services.

“No community is immune from these heartbreaking disorders that have taken a toll on far too many of our peers, friends, and neighbors,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement.  “This important funding will give Mainers who are struggling with mental health and substance use disorders access to the treatment programs they need to achieve recovery and healing.”

The funding will be allocated as follows:

·        Community Health and Counseling Services in Bangor was awarded $3,231,582.

·        Sweetser in Saco was awarded $2,901,466.

This funding will support accessible mental health programs across Maine, improve outreach and case management programs, and ensure that scientifically-established findings and practice-based knowledge are applied in preventing and treating mental health and substance use disorders.
