Senators Collins, King Announce More Than $390,000 Awarded To Jackson Laboratory

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor has been awarded $395,243 by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to support clinical research related to neurological disorders.
 
“This funding is crucial to unraveling the challenges that neurological disorders pose to individuals and families in Maine and across the nation,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Further understanding of how the brain and nervous system work is vital to the prevention and treatment of neurological disorders.”
 
Jackson Laboratory has been a global leader in study of neurological disorders, including neurodegeneration diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. As Chairman of the Senate Aging Committee, Senator Collins has placed fighting Alzheimer’s disease among her highest priorities. Earlier this year, with Senator Collins' strong support, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved a $350 million increase in funding for Alzheimer’s research.
