Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins, Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King announced today that the Brunswick Executive Airport will receive $2,014,200 support improvements for Hanger 5. The funding will be awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Military Airport Program (MAP).
“The redevelopment of Brunswick Naval Air Station has been a catalyst for new economic activity and job creation in the region, and the presence of the Brunswick Executive Airport is a strong asset for businesses in the area,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “This funding will help support the outstanding work by the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority, increase the airport’s functionality, and further assist the conversion from military base to civilian airport.”
MAP funding is awarded to civil sponsors of military airfields for the development of aviation facilities for the public. This program also assists new sponsors in converting former military airfields to public use to add system capacity and reduce congestion at existing airports experiencing significant delays. In addition, MAP provides financial assistance to the civilian sponsors who convert military airfields to civilian or joint military/civilian use.
