Senators Collins, King Announce $54.5 Million Contract Awarded to Bath Iron Works

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the U.S. Navy has awarded Bath Iron Works (BIW) a $54,527,203 contract modification to a previously awarded contract for Planning Yard Services for the DDG 51 Class Guided Missile Destroyer program.

“Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are the workhorses of the Navy, defending our national security and protecting our interests around the globe,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement.  “This funding will allow BIW’s engineers, designers, and planners to continue providing technical expertise to the Navy and strengthen Maine’s economy.  The hardworking and highly skilled men and women at Bath Iron Works build the world’s highest quality ships, and we will continue our efforts to ensure they have the resources they need.”

This funding is a cost-plus-award-fee modification to a previously awarded contract for planning yard services.  The majority of the work will be performed in Bath and Brunswick and is expected to be completed by June 2023.

Senator Collins is a senior member of the Appropriations Committee and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.  Senator King is a member of the Armed Services Committee.
