Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that Bath Iron Works has been awarded a $14,950,000 contract for conceptual design work on the Navy's new Guided Missile Frigate (FFG(X)). The contract, which is expected to be complete by June 2019, includes options that could bring the cumulative value to $22,900,000.
“Every day, the hardworking men and women at BIW prove that Bath built is best built,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “The design contract awarded today reflects the Navy’s confidence in the ability of BIW’s skilled employees to deliver high-quality ships that are essential to our national security.”
The Navy will use BIW’s and the other designs to develop its specifications for the Navy's next-generation guided-missile frigates. A competitive construction contract for as many as 20 FFG(X) ships will likely be awarded in 2020.
Senator Collins is a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, and Senator King is a member of the Armed Services Committee.
