SENATOR SUSAN COLLINS RECEIVES 9-11 AWARD IN NY CITY FOR HER WORK ON INTELLIGENCE REFORM LEGISLATION

WASHINGTON, DC-- On the fourth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, Senator Susan Collins was in New York city today to accept an award from "Voices of September 11," an advocacy group comprised of families who lost loved ones on September 11. The "Building Bridges Award" was presented to Senator Collins for her work in authoring the Collins-Lieberman intelligence reform bill, which was signed into law last year.

During the event in New York City today, Senator Collins said, "I am deeply honored to be selected for this award". She commended "Voices of September 11th" for providing a network of support for families who lost loved ones and for their advocacy and involvement in intelligence reform legislation.

"The members of the Voices of September 11th have provided us all with such an inspiring example of courage and grace," said Senator Collins.

Senator Collins added, "There are also so many others who deserve recognition: my congressional colleagues who worked so hard on this difficult on complex legislation, the brave and dedicated first responders at all levels of government who devote their lives to our protection; and, of course,

"That an event so horrifying could bring so many people together in a noble common cause demonstrates why this award could not be more appropriately named," Senator Collins added.

Also presented with awards were Senator Joe Lieberman, Congresswoman Jane Harman, and Congressman Pete Hoekstra, all of whom worked with Senator Collins on the legislation.
