Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced that Elizabeth Rowland, a Swans Island native, has been awarded a fall internship in her Washington, D.C., office.
“Elizabeth is a hardworking student and has demonstrated impressive involvement with sports and extracurricular activities on campus,” said Senator Collins. “I am delighted to welcome her to my D.C. office, where she will have the opportunity to see the legislative process firsthand while providing invaluable assistance to her fellow Mainers.”
Elizabeth is a senior at George Washington University studying International Affairs and Fine Arts. She also is a member of the varsity women’s crew team, where she earned Second Team All-Conference and A-10 All-Academic honors. Outside of athletics, Elizabeth is a member of Remix, GW’s racially and ethnically mixed student association. In addition, she is internal vice president of SAAC, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
After graduation, Elizabeth hopes to pursue an MSc in International Development in the UK, potentially focusing her research on the political instability and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. She hopes to pursue a career in humanitarian relief and development either in Latin America or with a US-based NGO.
Maine students who are interested in applying for future sessions of the internship program can do so through Senator Collins’ website at: https://www.collins.senate.gov/services/students.
