Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins met with a group of 18 seniors from Marshwood High School in South Berwick who were visiting Washington, D.C., to represent Maine at the We The People National Finals, an academic competition on the U.S. Constitution.

“I was delighted to congratulate this group of students from Marshwood High School on all of their hard work to make it to the national competition,” said Senator Collins.  “We had a wonderful discussion about the importance of civic engagement, and I enjoyed hearing from these bright students about their studies of the fundamental values and principles of our Constitution.  They represented our state well at the national competition.”

The 32nd Annual We The People National Finals was held on April 26 through April 29 at the National Conference Center in Washington, D.C.  More than 1,200 high school students from across the country traveled to our nation’s capital to compete.  “We The People” is a civics-oriented curriculum sponsored by the Center for Civic Education.  Teams qualify for the National Finals by placing first in their state competition or through wild card availability.  During the National Finals, students participate in simulated congressional hearings and testify as constitutional experts before panels of judges.
