Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins recently welcomed Joseph “Joe” Hennessey, the 2019 Maine Teacher of the Year, to the U.S. Capitol.  Joe is an English teacher at Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford, where he has taught for four years.

“I was delighted to have the opportunity to congratulate Joe on his outstanding accomplishment,” said Senator Collins.  “He is truly committed to educating students, showing them the many joys of literature and preparing them for life after graduation.”

Since 2012, Joe has held positions as both an English teacher and a teacher for at-risk youth.  He specializes in English literature and composition, and he has taught speech and debate.  At PCHS, Joe has implemented a college prep, literature-based interdisciplinary course that focuses on students’ interests and aims to prepare them for life after graduation.
