Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins welcomed Donnalina “Lina” Michaud of Augusta, the 2019 Maine Mother of the Year, to her Washington, D.C., office.  Lina was visiting our nation’s capital to attend the 84th National Convention of American Mothers.

“I was delighted to have the opportunity to congratulate Lina on being named the 2019 Maine Mother of the Year,” said Senator Collins.  “We had a great discussion about the work Lina is doing in her community to ensure that students from lower-income families have the school supplies they need at the beginning of the academic year.”

Lina is a graduate of Cony High School and later attended University of Maine at Augusta, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services.  She joined Le Club Calumet in 2005 as part of the first group of female members to be initiated.  Lina is also a member of the Elks, where she promotes scholarships, organizes the Greater Augusta Area Back to School Event, and is an advisor for the “Antlers” Junior Elks Program.  She supports numerous charitable programs, such as Maine Children’s Cancer Program, Camp To Belong Maine, Kinship Group of Central Maine, and the Betsy Ann Ross House of Hope for Homeless Female Veterans.  Lina also serves as the ABC Quilts coordinator for the Maine Chapter of American Mothers.

American Mothers, Inc., is focused on educating moms about policy issues that could impact them, honoring moms for their contributions, advocating on behalf of a safer existence for all women and children, and supporting other non-profits that benefit women and children via the Golden Rule Grant Fund.  The Golden Rule Grant Fund provides an avenue where American Mothers can implement its mission and values by supporting other non-profit organizations as they provide services for the common good of mothers and children.
