Jay, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins visited Spruce Mountain Middle School in Jay and spoke to students at a full-school assembly. During her visit, Senator Collins talked about Women’s History Month and described her experience of being one of the longest serving women in the history of the United States Senate. She also answered questions from students.

“Today at Spruce Mountain Middle School, I had the pleasure of discussing Women’s History Month and my journey in public service with hundreds of eager and engaged Maine students,” said Senator Collins. “It was inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and potential, and I reminded these bright students that with dedication and the willingness to persevere, they too can make history and shape our nation's future.”

Senator Collins has visited more than 200 schools throughout Maine during her Senate service and has long led efforts to honor our nation’s public schools and improve our education system.

Earlier this month, Senator Collins led a group of Senators in celebrating the critical role of public school teachers, administrators, parents, and students by designating February 26 through March 1 as “Public Schools Week.” This resolution encourages state, local, and federal lawmakers to prioritize efforts to strengthen public education and bolster services that provide critical support for students, including counseling, extracurricular activities, and mental health resources.
