Sanford, ME — Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins visited the Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library in Sanford, Maine. In December, Senator Collins secured $3 million in Congressionally Directed Spending for the renovation and expansion of the historic library, which serves over 21,000 residents and surrounding communities.
"Libraries are more than just repositories of books; they are centers of knowledge, community gathering places, and catalysts for personal and professional growth,” said Senator Collins. “This renovation and expansion will enable the library to continue its core function as a book lender while also serving residents and visitors of all ages. I was delighted to support this project that will help strengthen and grow the community.”
Senator Collins has consistently championed initiatives to secure funding and support for libraries across Maine. Last year, Senator Collins secured nearly $4 million for the Friends of Veterans’ Memorial Library to build a new library in Patten and yesterday, Senator Collins announced that she secured $4,535,000 for Maine public libraries in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Agriculture and Rural Development appropriations bill.
