Bridgton, ME – This afternoon, U.S. Senator Susan Collins met with Bridgton Town Manager Robert (Bob) Peabody Jr. to visit downtown businesses and see the ongoing renovations being made through the Main Street Streetscape Project and the Bridgton Water District Project.
“During my visit to Bridgton today, I had a wonderful discussion with Bob Peabody and other members of the community about the exciting work being done to enhance the streetscape and improve the town’s water infrastructure,” said Senator Collins. “Bridgton is already a well-known destination for outdoor recreational enthusiasts, and these investments will help attract more visitors, businesses, and jobs. As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to champion federal funding to support Maine communities.”
Senator Collins has worked to secure significant funding to aid Bridgton’s revitalization projects.
In August 2020, Bridgton Water District received a $600,000 grant and a $1,800,000 loan through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal program to replace existing water mains in the downtown area, upgrade aging infrastructure, and help the distribution system operate more effectively and efficiently.
In December 2018, Bridgton received more than $20 million from USDA Rural Development for water infrastructure, including a $10.4 million loan and a $10 million grant to rehabilitate its wastewater treatment system. The project will construct a new wastewater treatment facility, upgrade some aging sewer collection infrastructure, and expand the system which will enable additional users in the greater downtown area to have access to public wastewater services. Additional funding included $2 million from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and $443,000 from the town.
