SENATOR COLLINS URGES SENATE TO CONTINUE DEBATE ON IRAQ RESOLUTION

Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, spoke on the Senate floor tonight urging her colleagues to consider the Iraq Resolution, that she coauthored, as an amendment to the continuing resolution currently under consideration.                         The bipartisan resolution expresses the Senate’s opposition to the President’s plan to send more U.S. troops to Iraq.               "There is no more pressing issue facing this country than Iraq," said Senator Collins.  "The public is disappointed to see the Senate avoid the debate on the most important issue of our day.  The current stalemate is unacceptable."     ###
