WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Susan Collins tonight issued this statement following the Senate's adoption of rules changes. The compromise agreement was approved by a final vote of 86-9.
"I am pleased that, as I have urged, Senate leaders were able to reach a bipartisan agreement to amend the rules of the Senate. I believe this agreement preserves the traditions of the Senate and protects the rights of the minority while preventing the abuses that have occurred on both sides of the aisle.
"By working together to find common ground, the Senate is beginning this session on a positive note. I am hopeful that this spirit of compromise can continue forth as we now begin to address the many pressing challenges before our nation, such as job creation and putting our fiscal house back in order."
