WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Senator Susan Collins released this statement following the announcement that Colgate-Palmolive has agreed to purchase a majority stake in Tom's of Maine for $100 million. Tom's of Maine, based in Kennebunk, is the leading natural personal care product company in the U.S. and employs nearly 200 workers.
"Tom and Kate Chappell started Tom's of Maine with very little money but big dreams. Today, their company continues to be guided by the personal beliefs and corporate values they established for it nearly four decades ago. Tom's of Maine built its reputation on Maine's unique qualities and I am pleased that Colgate-Palmolive executives recognize this and have committed to continuing the company’s operations in Maine. I want to congratulate Tom and Kate Chappell, and the dedicated employees of Tom's of Maine, on this deal."
