Senator Collins' statement on the passing of former Senator Fred Thompson

WASHINGTON, D.C. -  U.S. Senator Susan Collins released the following statement regarding the passing of former Senator Fred Thompson:

      "The passing of Fred Thompson fills both my husband,Tom Daffron, and me with sorrow. Tom served for four years as Fred's chief of staff as Fred began his Senate service, and I served alongside Fred on the Senate committee that investigated campaign financing and other issues and succeeded him as chairman. 

      "Fred was a larger-than-life figure with a keen intellect, infectious laugh, and extraordinary talent in so many areas. 

      "Tom and I shall miss him so much, and our hearts go out to his wife Jeri and to his children."
