Senator Collins’ Statement on Passing of Mal Leary

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins issued this statement following the death of lifelong journalist and Maine native, Mal Leary:

“Mal Leary was the dean of the Maine press corps.  Through 45 years of distinguished service to journalism, he kept the people of Maine informed and helped them to be engaged citizens. 

“We sat together for countless interviews over the years, covering many subjects.  His questions were tough but always fair.  His preparation was thorough, demonstrating an unparalleled understanding of the issues.  His reporting was accurate and balanced.

“Mal’s dedication to his profession truly made a difference, and I will miss him so much.  At this time of sorrow, I offer my deepest condolences to his wife, Susan, and their family.”
