Washington, D.C. —Following the nomination of Elaine Chao to be the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, issued this statement:
“Elaine is an enormously bright and capable leader whom I have known for many years. She will bring a wealth of experience to this post given her previous experience in the Executive branch, including her service in President George Bush’s cabinet as well as her service as deputy secretary of transportation during President George H.W. Bush’s administration.
“As the Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, I look forward to working with Elaine to improve our nation’s transportation system.”
