SENATOR COLLINS' STATEMENT ON GOVERNMENT DUTIES ON COATED PAPER FROM CHINA

U.S. Senator Susan Collins today released this statement following the announcement that the United States has imposed preliminary duties on glossy magazine-style paper imported from China.

"This is encouraging news for Maine's coated paper producers, such as NewPage and Sappi," said Senator Collins. "For too long, paper manufacturers in China and Indonesia have been producing their product at below-market prices due to subsidies. These preliminary duties will assist Maine paper companies and help them compete on a more level playing field."

In October, Senators Collins and Olympia J. Snowe sent a letter to officials at the Department of Commerce supporting the countervailing duty petition.
