U.S. Senator Susan Collins tonight released this statement regarding the debate over increasing our nation’s debt ceiling and the addresses by the President and Speaker of the House.
“Time is running short. Americans expect their elected leaders to come together and solve problems, and we are facing one of our biggest challenges. While I will closely review the details of the alternative plans put forth today by the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader, I remain disappointed that the President has not developed his own detailed way forward. Nevertheless, I am hopeful that the President and Congress can agree on a responsible plan that prevents a default, reins in spending, and puts real and reasonable limits on future spending.”
