Senator Collins Statement on Bipartisan Passage of Long-Term Transportation Funding Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, voted in favor of the bipartisan Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, a $305 billion, fully funded five-year surface transportation bill that would reauthorize our nation’s highway, transit, rail and safety programs. The legislation passed the Senate with strong bipartisan support (83-16) this evening.

“The bipartisan FAST Act will create jobs, boost our nation’s economy, and move people and products more safely and efficiently,” said Senator Collins. “This legislation provides increased funding for improving our transportation infrastructure in Maine and throughout our country, giving state departments of transportation the certainty they need to plan and invest in thousands of highways, roads, bridges, and other transportation projects.  The bill will help stem the deterioration of our nation’s roads and bridges, in particular.”
