Auburn, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins spoke at an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the International Paper (IP) Auburn Box Plant. The plant supports 130 manufacturing jobs in Auburn and the surrounding community. Auburn Mayor Jeffrey Harmon and employees and executives of International Paper were in attendence for the event.

“I am delighted to join the International Paper team, Mayor Harmon, distinguished guests, and friends to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IP Auburn Box Plant. From its opening in 1974 to today, this manufacturing operation has been a tremendous asset to this region and to our state, providing $15 million in payroll and benefits and $9 million to small and medium-sized business supplies,” said Senator Collins during her remarks. “Maine’s forest products industry is a vital part of our history. Working together, we can help ensure it is a vital part of our future.”

Senator Collins has been a longtime supporter of Maine’s paper product manufacturers. She secured more than $16 million in Congressional Directed Spending in last year’s funding bills to support research and workforce development for Maine’s forest products industry.
