WASHINGTON, D.C. —Senator Susan Collins, chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, today requested more information following the announcement by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that it plans to change screening procedures at the nation’s airports in regards to small items that may be carried on board airplanes.
On December 22, the TSA will begin allowing airline passengers to carry small scissors and screwdrivers aboard planes. Some items such as box-cutters and small knives will remain on the list of banned items.
“The TSA has been reviewing airport security measures, including the passenger and luggage-screening standard. Such a review is appropriate to ensure that its resources are focused on the greatest threats to public safety. I have asked the TSA to brief me next week on its proposed revisions,” said Senator Collins.
