Senate Armed Services Committee Member Susan Collins has released this statement on the announcement that General Peter Pace will be replaced as the Joint Chiefs of Staff:
“General Pace has devoted his life and career to serving our nation and has done so well. I am grateful for his dedication and service to America during challenging times for our nation.
“I am delighted that Admiral Mullen will be nominated to replace him. I have the utmost of respect for the Admiral and have worked closely with him on shipbuilding and other issues of importance to our U.S. Navy and national security. Just two weeks ago, we teamed up to secure additional funding for the Navy shipbuilding account during the Senate Armed Services Committee’s consideration of the fiscal year 2008 Defense Authorization bill. I look forward to his upcoming nomination hearing and the possibility of working with him further in his new position.”
