WASHINGTON, DC—Senator Susan Collins, who is a Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and has joined forces with Senators John Warner (R-VA), John McCain (R-AZ), and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in legislation to address military commissions, has released the following statement on an agreement reached this afternoon between the Senators and White House:
“I have talked with Chairman Warner and am pleased that an agreement has been reached on both the military tribunals issue and on the application of Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions. This agreement will allow the Senate to move forward with legislation that provides the government the tools necessary to fight terrorism, while holding us true to core American values.
“I commend Senators Warner, McCain, and Graham, for their persistence, tenacity, and commitment that led to agreement on this important issue."
